FAR INFRARED SAUNA - Frequently Asked Questions.
What is Far Infrared?
Far Infrared radiation is electromagnetic radiation of a wavelength longer than light that cannot be seen by the naked eye. The radiation hits the surface of the body and heats through a process called conversion; this radiant heat is the same as the heat from the Sun. An example of this is to consider walking down a street in warm sunshine and then entering the shade of a tree, you can feel the temperature change straight away, this is because the tree is absorbing the infrared rays from the sun.
Is an Infrared Sauna Safe to use?
Yes, because it is the same as the natural heat from the Sun there are no adverse effects, in fact unlike sunlight a Far Infrared heater panel does not emit harmful Ultraviolet rays. In some Hospitals newborn babies are kept warm by using Infrared heat. If you have any doubts or you are receiving medical treatment always consult with your Health Professional before using the Sauna.
What is the difference between an Infrared Sauna and Hot Rock (Steam) Sauna?
In a Steam Sauna heat is first created by a method of heating stones to a high temperature, then water is poured on the stones to create Steam. The Steam then heats the air which consequently heats the body. Typical temperatures in a Steam Sauna are 76 to 88 Degrees Celsius and can be uncomfortable over a period of time. Infrared radiant heat heats the body directly and operate at lower temperatures, typically 45 to 55 Degrees Celsius, which mean they use less power to heat and are more comfortable meaning that you can stay in longer, sweat more, and receive more health benefits.
How long should you stay in the Sauna?
When you first start to enjoy your Sauna start off with sessions of about 20 minutes and set the Temperature to 30 Degrees. Slowly increase the time to between 30 – 40 minutes per session maximum. Experiment with the temperature settings until you find the one which is optimum for your own personal use, that is a temperature which allows you to sweat a lot but still feels comfortable to remain inside.
What should you wear when using an Infrared Sauna?
Bathing clothes are recommended for use in the Sauna but you can wear shorts and a Tee shirt if you want. Make sure that you always take a towel into the Sauna with you, this will assist in keeping you comfortable and at the same time will ensure that the Sauna inside is kept clean.
Are Infrared Saunas safe for Children to use?
The Infrared Sauna is safe for children to use but ideally they should be under Adult supervision. As children have a smaller body mass than that of adults they can de- hydrate more quickly. It is advisable for all Sauna Users, Adult and Children
to have a glass of water before and after their sauna session to keep the body sufficiently hydrated.
How much Electricity does an Infrared Sauna use?
The Infrared Sauna, depending on it’s size and shape uses approximately the sam amount o electric power as any other home appliance. For example the 2 person Sauna uses 1800watts and a hairdryer typically uses about 1500watts. The Sauna connects to a standard 10 Amp house socket and doesn’t require any special wiring to use it.
How is Infrared Good for the Body?
Infrared radiation is of a light frequency that the human eye cannot detect, however one of the properties of this radiation is that it can penetrate the skin to the tissues below. The light energy is now converted to heat energy which in turn cause our blood vessels and capillaries to dilate which makes for better circulation and also this heat causes us to sweat which helps the body to get rid of many toxins held in by our skin.
